effects of lowering car?

#1 Post by rustbucket » Mon May 25, 2009 9:34 pm

my nova has ladderbars, cheap coilovers and cheap 90/10 shocks up front. The front is loose as a goose to help transfer weight.
Right now I havent touched the suspension in 2 years (since back halving the car). It hooks good with a 1.30 60 ft and goes straight.
Question is... What kind of adjustments or how would the hooking factor be changed if I lowered the back 1 hole? Ive wanted to for awile but didnt want to start changing everything or risk the suspension not working anymore. I know with change there wil be effects but I dont know what they are and if its more trouble than its worth. thanks, tony

Hey Tony,
Lowering the back of the car will lower the I.C. (Instant center). It can cause the suspension not to work as it did or it could work better. Trying it is the only way to know what effect lowering has on it. I would plot out the suspension were it is now and replot it after I have lowered it to see what the differance is. You can always put it back were it started.

the shop that back halved the car did a good job I suppose, I havent touched the suspension. I did read earlier that a anti-roll
has absolutly no effect on a ladder bar car so I guess I spent the money for no reason.
Is there a suspension guide for dummys availible?
I have no clue on how to plot the i.c.
thanks, tony
