Coilover spring rate

#1 Post by RCJ » Tue Sep 05, 2006 9:12 pm

What is a good starting rate for a Mako R/S car.Around 850lbs on each front tire. How much travel should the front shocks have?

my cutlass is about that weight.
i use 3" of travel measured at the fender and the 450# coil over springs. screwed them in about 1/2 way up the shock to get the ride height i wanted. seems to transfer ok.

450? Wow.. I don't think mine are anywhere near that stiff. Must be to support all the weight of that big blower? I think mine are 225's or something like that, have to look again.

john, are you saying that your big inch cast iron block has less nose weight than mine?
i would say your 50% of 3450 is much more than my 52% of 3300.

You're 1716 on the front? That's pretty close to mine. The springs on mine must be compressed a lot more than yours I'd guess.
