I'd like to know a bit more about those fiberglass springs... Have you had any problems with them? I know a guy that had some aftermarket fiberglass ones on a Comet that broke one, but I'm not sure what brand they were. What's different with the Astro spring as compared to the Nova? How much lighter are they?

Vette brake used to make some, but they are not on their website. Try www.vettebrakes.com. I think the part number was 31242-43 or 31236-37. I had ask them about using them on a drag car before, but they really could not say whether or not they would handle the abuse of repeated launching.

50/50 weight, thats great! Maybe we can talk some time? My 68 is around 3550, (with me) and nose heavy.
that pic was at vegas super chevy, we have since torn the car apart and sold everything, we are putting together a 2005 cavalier to run nhra superstock modifed, the 68 was too nice of a car to cut up to run super stock full time with like we want to.

a few tips we learned

we used aluminum bolts to hold the fenders and non structural stuff on,
we also cut every single bolt in the car of any excess threads, so the bolts were long enough to go thru the nuts fully but nothing more, ended up with a 15lb coffee can after doing that. light weight front wheels (aluma star one piece forged) lamb brakes, aluminum radiator just big enough to keep the car cool, we acid dipped the wheel wells and core support, used braided tfe lines instead of neopreme braided (lighter and flows more with smaller diameter), used titanium bolts in suspension parts, etc, anything we could think, of to drop weight in front we did.

it wasnt really the weight, we added a ton of weight to the rear of the car to get the chassis 50/50, what we really were after was the stiffness, the spring rate is really high, plus with the calverts we had (that we modified to get a different instant center) it was as close to a four link we could get. the astro spings are so much longer than a camaro spring, we cut em down and machined our own aluminum brackets to bolt to them. we had the meatiest part of the spring to the front of the car, basically the smae principal as the mopar trick springs for chryslers, stiff leafs in the front of the axle.

Kevin, I like the idea of the aluminum bolts we took apart a 68 camaro and like you said there was a can full of bolt that weighed. Is there a mail order company that you have seen selling aluminum and titanium bolts. Don't know if we can afford them but i would like to know how much they run. Great pic looks like you had things working! Thanks Jason

Well we are very happy with the Rancho shocks and the Koni Spa1 combine with the new converter. I want to thank everyone for the Input! I got three pass in this weekend at KCIR before some coil wire trouble. One pass N/A was 60' 1.809 with the Qt et 11.96@113.90 the other was a 11.98 then on 150hp of nitrous it only made it to the 330 but it's 60' was 1.436. Broke the 1/8 was 6.79@87.64 So that was a big differnce on nos from last years 60' in the 1.70s. Thanks Again Jason

I'm running 2" lowering blocks with no pads, and 4* pinion shims on my 74 Nova. You said you were running lowering blocks as well? I'm getting ready to the pull the trigger on the RS9000s after yesterday's miserable 60fts, spinning like a maniac.

I am running 1.5" lowering blocks with no pads but it was a multi leaf housing so it realy would just be lowered .5". Landrum 200lbs mono we have the bar in the top hole with a 1/4 drill bit worth of air gap.The rancho shocks are set left the soft which I think is 1 and the right is set 2 clicks in.It left good and strait no problems.A friend had his set the same way and his has a jerico 4-speed so he hits it harder than my foot brake so this is where we started. My friend he runs his bar set with 1 turn of preload so ??. I am going to play with it to night. My car sits just as low or lower as the car in your aviator .dad has to pic up on the front to get the alum. racing jack under the front cross member and the rear almost covers the letters on the ET drags in the rear 28 tall tire.let me know if i can help.Jason

Not bragging just in aw, went to OIR last night and did a 1.41 and pull both frt wheels off the ground. It was not more than 6" or so but it was a shocker. My Dad says add more nitrous and see what it will do but I thinking we might back it down and get a little more use to it.John do you have a 1/8 to 1/4 conversion chart on the board anywhere?I just had to share my excitement!jason

Cool, glad to hear you got some air with it! The conversion I use just quick and dirty is 1/8 ET divided by .65 should be in the ball park. 5.85 et /.65=9.00 1/4 mph et

1.415-1.431 60ft times over 2 days racing at OIR, naturally aspirated :) I ran a new best 1/8th of 6.68 @ 100.72 and 8.80 @ 114 1000ft, e.t.'s were 6.71 and 8.84 on the 10.55 pass. I jetted down 2 sizes in the rear, back to 78's square in the 950hp. I attribute the 60's to 30x10.5x15 radial slicks, KONI shocks on full soft up front. I've still got some tuning to do with the rear shocks,QA1 single adjustables, gonna try and stiffen them up some more, right now they are in the middle, set at 6 clicks. I probably don't have a whole lot left to gain, maybe a tenth or so with weather alone, then I could go electric water pump drive, I could possibly sneak into the 10.30's by the end of the year...finally makin progress.
