looking for advice

#1 Post by 427belair » Mon Jun 04, 2007 7:03 pm

I just got back from my first test and tune with my 74 nova and am looking for advice on suspension. My combo is a 555 bbc with a 1.8 glide and 4.30 spool. I have stock front and rear suspension and run 28x10 slicks. Im pulling the tires off the line and it doesnt feel like its spinning. My 60' times were in the mid to low 1.5's. It did feel like it was getting a bit loose right before I shifted to second and then again on the top end. When I say stock suspension i mean part store shocks and original springs. Any ideas on what could help? thanks for any advice.

Most of the guys here use Rancho shocks, cal trac split mono springs and cal trac bars.Moroso type drag springs up front with some kind of adjustable shocks,if its in the budget get some good shocks all around.Dont get discouraged its only your first time out.

Sounds like you're off to a good start, that 555 ought to be able to lay down some nice numbers once you get her all dialed in. What was the incrementals for the rest of the pass?

I was at an 1/8 mile track, so those are the numbers until june 28 when our 1/4 mile track races. Here in montana we only have 3 tracks and the 1/4 mile track only runs once a month.

One other thing, my cage is only good for 6.4/10.0 so im going to have to be careful. Next winter ill work on a 8.5 or better cage but, I think ill be faster than 6.40 if make a pass without lifting. The guy in the pits next to me had a 67 camaro with a 572 with 14" tires and caltrac suspension and we were running about the same times, but he said in boise idaho he runs 5.80's. Can 3200' elevation difference make that big or E.T. difference or is he full of poop?

Just the track can make that difference. There is one local track where most everyone is 4 to 5 tenths slower than at the other local tracks at the same elevation. I'm sure the elevation can make a difference also.
