shock travel

#1 Post by novaz » Wed Nov 21, 2007 2:59 pm

I am relocating my lower rear shock mount so that the shock is more vertical I have Strange double adjustables with 6 1/2" of travel how much extension travel should I be aiming for with the car at ride height currently I only have 3 1/2" due I suspect to the way they are leaned in.
Thanks
Royz

On a leaf spring car you want the majority of your travel available for extension. Somewhere around 1.5-2" of rod showing at rest should be plenty.

If you follow John's advice you'll be fine. I would have saved 70% of total travel for extension (in a leaf spring car) and with your 6.5 inches of travel, that would leave 30% for compression or 1.95 inches. By the way, I've never seen more than one inch of compression travel in any car that attended one of my old test sessions, so, again, yiou'll be fine.
Stay Tuned,
