Nova rack width
Anyone know of a stock application rack that's the correct width for a Nova?
I'm hoping for something cheaper than Flaming River, Unisteer, Steeroids, etc.

Re: Nova rack width
I bought a flaming river 71-72 pinto rack off of ebay for $145.00 + $12.00 shipping new in the box. It was the cheapest I could find anywere. I looked for a used one but to no avail so I thought $145.00 wasn't that bad and it's new. What your looking for is a 1971-1972 pinto rack. It has the right pivet points for a nova and you will have to lengthen the ends.

Re: Nova rack width
Any idea how much weight you saved by cutting out the crossmembers on the front subframe? I need to get some weight off the front of my car so that I can take the weight out of the trunk.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Nova rack width
Cutting the crossmember out is a wash because of adding metal back to it.
The savings is in the tubular a-arms and rack & pinion.
I would say around 80 lbs was taken off the front end maybe more.
I did it for $ 1300.00 give or take $ 50.00.

Re: Nova rack width
Did you use mild steel or moly on the crossmember? I figured that would take 10-15 lbs off.
Great info. Thanks.

Re: Nova rack width
I used mild steel. There is really not a lot of weight with the sheet metal of the crossmembers.
And I used a heavy'er tubing (3/16s) so I could burn it in hot so I know it will not break.

hi,,what is the total lengths, with ends(not with the outer tierod ends on, just the inner tie rods) that it needs to be for a 68-72 nova
i have one that is too long since i changed the steering arms to the trz ones(long story) .what is the easiest way to get them shorter.just change inner tie rods?
Re: Nova rack width
I was able to get 8 lbs out of the subframe on mine. 4.5 lbs on the front crossmember and 3.5 lbs on the big one. I used 4130 plate and tubing.supernova wrote:Cutting the crossmember out is a wash because of adding metal back to it.

Now I'm adding it back in with the mid and motor plates. I'm hoping that'll be no more than the 8 lbs I took out.
My TRZ control arms saved me 22 lbs.

I got a 100 lb break for the leaf springs this year. I think I'll get there.

Re: Nova rack width
1 1/4 x 3/16 on the front cross bar. 2" x 3/16 on the back cross bar. 3/16 plate. 1" x 1/8 for the angle supports. All mild steel.
But I over kill everything.
