John, you haven't figured out yet that I don't care what the clueless, the wannabes, the internet nobodies that ain't got shit, ain't don't shit that that think they know who feel compelled to debate my advice having little if any experience...think!

Those that truely want advice that will resolve their issues, help them achieve their goals recognize my knowledge and ALWAYS contact me via PM or email and are ALWAYS glad they did, just ask Bob West who I have been advising since I 1st posted on net 9 years ago!

Meanwhile, my offer to tune johnh's car with a $100 guarantee stands!

What are you offering him...NOTHING!

You worked on the Chevelle for how many years? Then you bought someone else's roller and went faster. And the motor you have, built by who? Not you! :thumb: And I run the same et ON MOTOR as you with a slower '60, so you need to work on that top end layover... peeingman:

my engine built to my specs was assembled and dyno by one of the best Sunset Racecraft and I'm in good company with the vast majority of serious racers that have Professionals build their engines, transmissions, cars/chassis, yada, yada, yada.

I don't need to build junk yard grenades and spray the shit out of them till they blow upp while trying to rotate the earth!

I studied in school, went to college, got a good education, built a career over the past 30 years and can afford the best cause I make a lot of money! :-P

keep thinking that, it makes the poor boy you are feel better but if you were ever in the other lane, a few turns of my adjustable restrictor plate would wake you from the coma you're in! ;) :-P

john, the offer is real.

That said, if you ever want to really run quicker and faster you've got to lose the tunnel ram/dual carbs, you're giving up TENTHS.

Install a vic jr. 1/2" 4 hole phenolic spacer and a Holley 1000HP carb. If you have the $ better still would be to have the vic jr.'s runners extended into the plenum and the carb pad milled 3/8" as well buy a Pro Systems 1000HP.

My ~725HP pump gas 468

had these mods done to the manifold as does my vic jr. on my 522...

I gave up on that tunnel ram set up a while ago. it was nothing but probs from the day i bought and installed it.
That motor was pulled out and the tunnel ram and carbs were sold on racing junk. that motor is torn apart being freshened and we installed the spare 454 with iron oval heads with a plate.
Beat it up as much as we could to run close to 6.50's.

I run a 9 inch tire class. we are doing OK for now, and have gone some rounds, made it to the finals, and brought home a few checks. Having ALOT of fun doing it.
Best so far is 1.397 6.48 @ 104.8

Not bad for a PLANE JANE 454 .. I cant complain right now.

I build all my own motors. And do all my own welding. And all that yada yada yada...

I could just as easily write a check to have it done (I too went to college and built a career, etc., and make a pretty good income). I don't buy my go fast hardware, I build it. Thats the point to all of this.

But even that isn't the really signifcant point I want to make here. I *want* to hang around with the rest of these folks, all the wanna-be-gofast guys (and gals). They're what makes the sport worthwhile. Unless you're into the corporate side of racing, courting big sponsors and chasing national titles, you're just another independant weekend racer, no matter what sort of purse you bring home in the end.

Being 'just another independant weekend racer', btw, is a pretty damn cool thing. It's easy to write checks, it's damn hard to build it all by hand. And those guys building stuff on their own are all of 'the clueless, the wannabes, the internet nobodies ' that you so casually dismiss. It's actually pretty cool to be grouped with all those folks. :)

I think that you should take some of that big money you make with your 30 year career investment and buy a clue as to what racing is about for real people.

Sorry John, that last post just hit a nerve and I'm a little ticked.

This would be another .02 cents I guess <g>

try telling all those class racers...stock, super stock, super comp, super gas and comp no mind the countless serious bracket racers running Pro and Super Pro that they are clueless spending 10, 20, 30 grand with PROFESSIONAL engine builders!

THESE guys are REAL racers with a real commmitment to what they do! :-P
