TOO MUCH TRACTION?

I am running a 99 camaro tube chassis car. It has a shafiroff 582 pro motor that dynoed 1010 hp at the crank.Th400 with a precision 9 inch w/5000 stall on the T-brake. I only have about 10 runs on the car and I cant seem to get the numbers I should expect out of it. One problem is that I can not get any wheel speed at the launch at all, it dead hooks so hard that it slams the wheelie bars and throws the car back up in the air. Tires are 16.5 x 33.I have tried anywhere from 7 psi to 9 psi and all the way soft to all the way hard on the shock settings. My best time so far is 9.13 @ 149 with a 1.30 60ft.

What kind of rear shocks and what are the low gear in the trans and the rear end?

I am not sure on the trans gear but I have the QA1 single adjustable shocks and 4.11 gears.

Have you tried more air pressure in the tires?

any tire shake and what type off tire ? and what E.T. are you shooting for? (33 x 16.5 is alot of tire for a mid 8 second, even a high 7 second car)

no tire shake at all. I am trying to be in the high 8's on motor and low 8's on nitrous.
Any recomendations on tire size?

4-link ic and it's height off the ground? Or if you're running ladder bars how long are they and how high are the front mounts off the ground? Rear / front spring pressures? how far out are you carring the front wheels? Whats you low chip RPM? What are your timing numbers?

Not enough shock for a 1000+ HP motor and a turbo 400 with a 4.10 gear..

Your trans ore than likely has a 2.48 low gear..

Is the converter setup to run Nitrous but you are not using it right now?

what's the car weigh?

Sounds like it may be down on power as well as the shocks (or 4 link) needing tweaking.

The mph sounds low for the HP and what I assume is a lighter weight tube/backhalf chassis.

My home built conventional headed 582 made 1056 hp and 811 ft/lbs. Very first pass off the trailer in my 3250 lb stock suspension, small tire car was an 8.77 @ 156.6 mph in 2500'+ D/A air. Heck, one time I left in high gear by accident and it ran a 10.13 @ 153 mph, so even if your car leaves like a slug for what ever reason, the mph is still low IMO.

have the converter tightend up, put a 355 gear in it and the car will run low 8s the car is to light to use that much gear and converter,,we have a 2400lb car 582 with a 14 32 4400 stall 373 gear that goes 1.09 60@ 7.20s with a glide that low first is not your friend ,, move the intersect point out add front weight pull timing on the start and you can make it work, it looses all forward motion when it hits the bars.!

Make more power!!!   That's always a good thing!

We had the same thing happen with a friends top sportman car and all we did to fix it was put a small tire on it. 34.5's came off and 33.5's went on and fixxed!!!!!!

You could try it and see.

If running N/A I'd give it more stall, not less. My 8" Ultimate flashes to 6400+ rpm.

The car weighs about 2800lbs the convereter was built to take about a 300 shot of nitrous and I am not currently spraying it until I get this launch settled down.
I am thinking of going to a 32 x 14 -15 tire. Do you think that will be that much difference from my 33 x 16.5 - 15?
If the car is down on power any suggestions what to look for?
