Fabbed 9" housing.

#1 Post by Hitchcock » Tue Nov 10, 2009 6:56 pm

Does anyone know how much difference there is in weight between the stock 9 in. ford housing with a nodular center section, vs a chrome moly 9" with an aluminum center section? Thanks.

I looked through Moser, Strange and Currie's websites and couldn't find anything about weights. I can tell you that the aluminum center section is a heck of alot lighter than the iron ones. (I'm so glad my car has one :D )

Looked in some of my log book notes on my stuff, my old HRW Nodular center section w/gears was 71 lbs. The new Dewco center section was 61 lbs - however that one uses a 9.5" ring gear, a bit heavier. 9" ring gear might be a little lighter.

My steel housing 9" Ford weighs 58 lbs (Narrowed)

35 spline sold moser axles weight 41 lbs, I must have forgot to weigh the new 41 spline gun drilled axles.

Aerospace rotor and hat weigh ea 7 lbs 1.9 oz, 1/2 the weight of the GM style vented rotor (stock car style) and steel hat.
