9.99 Cert

On another forums, there is a huge debate on if this roll cage will pass 9.99 cert. I have talked to my builder he said that it will, I will add that he has a 9.99 cert race car and builds cars. I have asked a member of S&W Racecars, and they have said yes also.

So I am triple checking. lol

Now I do have the halo, the a pillar bars and bars that from the subframe to the fire wall.

The debate is the bend on the bar that are againt the door.

Theres no NHRA certification for a cage slower than a 8.50 sticker. NHRA rules say that cage you have is good to 10.00 as soon as you go 9.99 you'll need the full sportsman 10pt or 12pt whatever it is, wich is the cage that will cert to 8.50. Now as far as that door bar being legal to go 10.00 Im not sure. I wouldnt think so but it will be up to the tracks tech. Somebody correct me if Im wrong here. :lol:

I don't think the door bar will be legal. I think it needs to be configured in a way that when your hand is on the steering wheel the bar will pass on the outside of your ellbow. ( mounted alot higher up )

I too doubt the door bar would be legal/certify to 8.50. I know when I build a cage at work, I would not do a side bar like that and expect our tech guy to pass it.

door bar must pass through the mid of the upper arm.. however swing out door bars are legal to 8.50.. i'm fat and there!!

Competiton Engineering used to and Jegs still does make a pro street door bar that looks just like yours and its "not for competition use" according to Jegs so I would say it wont pass tech or a chassis cert.

I was told by the tech guy that u can have 1 bend only in a door bar ! that looks like more than 1 ! :scratch:

That's exactly what I was told too.....

1 bend in the middle, 1 bend at the bottom = 2 bends

Look in your Jeg's catalog. They sell a door bar that looks a lot like the subject.
It says, "For street use only. Not for racing." Maybe that's a clue.

I think it depends all on the mood of the tech cause there are two cars I know of that run my class that have the jegs bars with stickers on them.

Mine are straight so not be in question by the tech.........

Yes it would be easy'er to get in and out with bends in the bars. But my car has to be certed to run 8.50's for the class I run.

If you get it to pass throught tech, they probably won't help you any in a crash. The bars would just fold up in the bends.

there is NO way that the door bar in the picture will pass tech. period. it has to pass the arm at a point between the shoulder and the elbow in the driving position. as for the 2 bends, that is not an issue,after it passes the driver it can do what it needs too to attach to the floor, or window door post. a bent bar is actually stronger than a straight piece. so that wouldn't bother me. as the builder of the nova in the picture submitted by hitchcock, that car has a swing out bar but it also has to pass (and does) by the driver in the right position. the only way to pass tech on the other car is to slouch way down in the seat if they ever check .

Yah yah, I'm looking at the rule book ( I have the last 5 yrs worth of rule books ). I think most of us here knows what it says. Doesn't mean it always get followed. I know that there is only half the cars in my class that have window nets. Not having a net didn't keep them from getting stickers. Anything 9.99 or faster must have a window net. There's one car thats been running for the last 2 yrs that is a 6 point roll bar car running 5.9's in the 1/8, it even has a sticker and is allowed to run well under it's safty margin. Most of the cars in my class will run well under 5.9's 1/8 mi.

It's not just the tech guy, it's also the track guy's that have to enforce the rules and at lots of these back road small race tracks it's just not going to happen.
The org. that I race with goes to two nationaly known tracks that will tech your car before letting you race. Half the cars in my class will not show up just for that reason.

It is my opinion that the track guy's don't enforce the rules because of car count. I also think you should follow the rules and not worry about anymore!!!!!!!!!
