Drum To Disc Brake Conversion Kits

#1 Post by MMAX » Thu Mar 11, 2010 3:35 pm

I'm looking for a front drum to disc conversion kit for my '68 Camaro. I'm looking at a factory bolt in kit right now but I have a question about front wheel clearance. I'm running Weld Magnum Drags, 15 X 3 with a 2.5" backspacing which had zero clearance issues on my drums. How do I make absolutly sure before I order that the new disc set-up will clear the wheels?

I got a kit from Matt's Classic Bowtieshttp://www.mattsclassicbowties.com/index.html that was a CCP brand kit.

I got mine with stock spindles and vented and drilled rotors, manual brake setup.

Very easy to install and came already asembled.

I use 15 x 3.5 Drag Lites on the front and have no issues. They do tell you in the kit that it will locate the wheels outward from the stock location. I just forget how much?

They also sell the kits with drop spindles.

The only thing different I would have done was, order the optional braided steel brake lines. I went out and bought my own lines and should have just made it easy on myself and go with their lines.

Here's a picture of the setup Image

I've looked at their stuff before and if I was to order it would probably be through them. Their prices seem fairly reasonable although I'm not too sure about shipping and duty (I'm from Canada). How has your stopping power improved Bruce?

Your going to laugh but I haven't tried it out yet.
Next week I'll be able to try things out.

Is there a real weight difference between front drums and discs?
