3rd gen F-body steering question

#1 Post by Ten5Valiant » Fri Mar 26, 2010 9:28 pm

I've got an 84 Firebird that I want to convert to manual steering. I know an S10 box will work, but what about the pitman arm? If it's different, will the pitman arm from the power box fit the manual box? Someone told me that F-bodies have the same steering linkage as the S10. But I can't find any proof.

Thanks in advance for any help :thumb:

Ive heard from a bunch of guys the 84+ s10 manual box with the stock pitman arm bolts right up but you need to cut some of the swaybar mount off and its about 7 turns lock to lock. Im not sure where it hits but I dont think its a big deal. I had a Vega box in mine but we put the Vega and Firebird pitman arms together to make it work. Flaming River sell a new Vega box with an install kit for about $500,Im sure the s10 setup is a lot cheaper.

Thanks for the input :thumb: I don't mind cutting the sway bar mount since this isn't a street car. At least not yet, lol.
