Tire Size vs 60 foot and MPH

#1 Post by Hnrywho » Thu Aug 18, 2011 1:35 pm

Ok, I am currently running 30-14.50-15 M&H cheater slicks on my car. It's a street/strip 4 speed camaro. The problem I have is that I hit my rev limiter just before the traps in a 1/4. I am looking at changing the rear tire to 31-13.50-15 Hoosier Quick Time Pro's to allow a little more RPM and MPH. My question is how bad will it hurt my 60 foot times and will I see a difference in E.T. good or bad? My last trip out the car ran a 11.57 E.T. at 114MPH. The 60' time was 1.55. I know there are a lot of different variables that come into play but I would like to get whatever feed back you guys can give. Thanks.

My guess would be about .05 loss in et and minimal in 60' unless you bog the motor.

I went from 4.88's to 4.30 and lost .10 in 60ft and a total loss in et of .10 , and i picked up 2 mph.

It may not lose a thing it really depends what your motor likes. Any chance you could up the limiter a couple hundred rpm?

Thanks for the reply, I know it's hard to tell until I try it I guess. I thought about upping the limiter 200 rpm and I'm sure I'd get through without hitting it, but I'm not sure what a basically stock 396/375 will hold up to. It's set at 7000rpm, it's stock rods, stock forged crank with ARP fasteners it's been balanced and align bored, I'm just not sure what it will take. I usually run 1/8th mile tracks around home so it's not an issue but once a year we make a trip to run a 1/4. Thanks again for the input.

I had a 4:86 gear in mopar rear with 29x14.5 quick time pros turning 7500 on chip a couple car lenths out
last winter went to dana and stayed with 4:86 gears and went to a 32x12 hoosier, I wanted it melloed out at finish but went to far

I now turn 6700 at finish and 60ft are 1.55 pulling tires slightly off ground on a 4900 chip
has went 1.51 on vert at 5400
my et is only off a tenth but turning motor 1.000rpms less so might just live with it
my best before was 10.56 best now is 10.65 and mph is 2 mph different

I should of geared my dana with 5:13 and I would of been were I wanted but didnt check into it enough

call up moser and mark williams and they will get you close

Thanks, this is good info. I'm not going to be jumping up too far in size, just an inch. Hopefully I won't lose a full tenth, if so maybe I can find a way to squeeze a little more power out of it to make up some of the loss.
