Flex Fan vs Electric Fan

#1 Post by Hnrywho » Thu Aug 18, 2011 2:03 pm

I'm currently running a flexalite fan rated to 10,000 rpm, the type that the blades flatten out at high rpm. Would I see any gain at all in E.T. by going to electric fans? I would still be running a belt driven mechanical water pump. Any experience or advise would be appreaciated.

I'm not a big fan of flex fans. Too many horror stories of broken blades flying through hoods and even one guy's eye.

As for the HP and ET, you might see a little improvement.

If you go to an electric do it right. get a good fan (Spal), build a shroud, and make sure you are controlling air flow at the radiator support, a chin spoiler helps.

Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate the knowledge. I've heard horror stories about flex fans as well, and I'd prefer not to become one of them. Thanks for the advice on the spal fans, I will definitely go that route.

Here's a hint I got from another member, go to Universal Parts.com and buy a SPAL fan.
Those who think they know it all have no way of finding out they don't.........
