I agree if money were plenty, it's not!!!!!!! I already have a car and selling the whole front end will pay for the F/G stuff. Nah I'll keep the car I have.

My fiberglass fenders saved 30 and the deck lid was another 30. Cutting the crossmembers out of the subframe only saved 7-8 as I recall but it sure is nice to be able to drop the pan in a jiffy.

Guess you now know why I pulled the trigger to build a new car. My nova is way too nice to get any more aggressive about pulling weight out, I have no problem cutting up this mustang
I am not really sure what the question is, but I am pretty sure the answer is Big Block.

My subframe is tweaked from when I got the car in the wall back in 2003 so I didn't mind cutting it. I'm keeping my eyes open for a dirt cheap 4-door car to steal a good subframe from and put into storage for a later date. At some point I'll put my car back on the street and build something else to race. No plans for when that'll be but that's the long term idea. The rest of the car is pretty much unmolested or can at least be covered up with new carpet, a trunk mat and a fresh paint job.

How's the Mustang coming along?

On the stock door inner structure, how do you know what you can and cannot cut out?

I want to be able to open and close it from the stock location and also wind the window up and down, would it be just smart for me to use a hole saw in lieu of cutting the structure away?

I thought about on the passenger side door, to remove the window mechanism and run a pin through the window tracks to keep the glass from sliding down. Would that idea work or maybe even tack welding an angle bracket to the track?

If you want all that stock stuff to work you're probably better off just getting the hole saw out. But, if you're after all the weight you can get, you need to remove window tracks, window mechanism, inside latches, etc. Not a simple project, might be better off getting fiberglass doors instead of hacking up your original ones.

These doors are all steel and in excelent shape. For what factory Camaro doors are going for, I could probaly sell them and buy fiberglass doors and still have money left over.

Maybe I better re-think getting the hole saws out?

You're not talking much weight drilling big holes in the interior side of the door. The entire panel probably doesn't weigh 5 lbs. so we're talking maybe a pound or two. There are probably far more bulky things you could work on without having to cut the original doors up.

Bruce unless you're class racing that car and after every pound you can get out of it that's probably not something I would recommend doing.

Not sure if 1st gen Camaro doors have the crash bars but if they do, its about 15 lbs total and it won't effect the window or latch mechanisms at all.

No crash bars just a lot of inner panel structure where the window and door mech gets bolted too.

Only things other then that stuff on the inside, is the window tracks and glass.

So the Nova's have a crash bar? Is that on all years or just certain years?

I wonder if the second gen Camaro's on up, have them in?

I think the Nova's first got crash bars in 73, I know my 71 doesn't have them.

It was probably a government mandate for the '73 model year.

i see cars all day from 8000 to 15000 on rj that would be under 2500 race weight.

by the time you shave 500 lbs from the current car you would have spent over 5 gs and still be heavy

the "done" cars have alum firewall, mostly alum flooring, lightweight square tubing, etc .

i think they make a more enjoyable race car because everything is easy to get to.

just dont get a[puke] camaro. ooooooooh :D

Those cars wouldn't likely be legal for what class Chris is racing in.
