Mini Tubbing A 70 Nova
Just wanted to know if anyone has some pics of the rear of thier car?? I want to mini tub my Nova by moving the spring perches and moving part of the frame rail. Problem is I dont know where to cut it. I want to run a 10 inch wheel with 5 in backspacing. Also going to cut a 9 inch. Any help would be appreciated. Want to keep the rear seat too..

5.5" of backspacing.
No, its not mini-tubbed. Its all stock, including the shock location. I did drill a hole up higher on the lower shock mount on the Caltracs to get the bottom of the shock away from the inner rim screws and I used stick-on wheel weights instead of normal crimp-on weights.
Stock rearend housing, stock spring location, stock upper shock mount, stock wheel tubs.
I could possibly fit a little more tire under it on these wheels, but not much.

craig-do you think it's possible to get a 29.5 tire to fit in the stock location that you have with a 10" wheel with 5.5 backspace? i'm the one who had the post on here for traction problems with my Nova. i'm going to try anything that will possibly help with traction and was told to try to squeeze a 10" rim under my car instead of the 8" i have for starters. Thanks!
beyond-does the track you race at belong in Div. 5? Just wondering because i will be in Brainderd for the Div. 5 ET Finals next weekend and would like to take a look at your car if you're there. Thanks!

No way a 29.5 will fit on a 10" rim with stock wheel wheels and spring location. I have 29x9" tires for 1/4 mile use on 15x8s with 4.5" of backspacing and they are a super tight fit. They rub pretty hard at times.
I've run 28x10s with some rubbing issues as well. 28x9s fit great and looked better than the 28x10s.
I might could fit a 27x9" tire on the 10" rims. I'm pretty doubtful the 28x9s would have worked on that wide of a rim. The lip of the rim is out under the fender and I've got the fender lips totally cut out on my car.
Hope this helps.

"Bill B" sent me a bunch of pictures he took when he did the mini-tub on his Nova. I've put them up here http://www.dragstuff.com/techarticles/Nova-mini-tub/ for reference. When I get some more time I'll add some commentary to this but in the meantime maybe this will help a few people out.

I have 275/60/15 drag radials that are 28" tall, 10.5" wide on a 10" rim with 5.5" back spacing with nothing removed, moved or cut.
