Just put this one up here, a lot of us haul to the races so I thought this might be a useful forum for posting things about getting to the track.

Thats a good Idea John. I bet there will be lots of helpful tips being made for a safe trip to and from the track.

Do most of you guys strap your car down by the rear axle or do you strap it down so the suspension doesnt move? Same in the front. If the car is moving up and down on the way to the track it will airate the shocks and they wont work as well as they should correct?

Both, in the front I tie mine down by the frame and on the rear I tie it to the rear end. It would probably be better if the car didn't move up and down wearing out the shocks.

Front is strapped to the frame, rear is strapped to the ladder bar plates.
The rear shocks are stiffer then the trick fronts so I dont think they move that much during towing. I can lift the front end by hand 4 inches the rear very little.

I've always heard it was better to let the suspension work while on the trailer, makes for better trailering, not as rough riding. I've also heard tying down the suspension isnt good either.

I tie mine to the a frame in the front and to an eyebolt through the bumper ball mount in the rear. I use a chain to the front and a chain and binder on the rear. I've had ratchet cables, winch cables, and ratchet straps break. I've given some thought to the free suspension travel idea as Mr. West posted, but the rocking of the car seems to occasionally let the hookups work loose. That's why I also use a safety chain as a backup.

I was told by a chassis builder ( someone who has had record holder cars in D/S and D/A comp eliminator and some very fast super stock cars)) NOT to let the car move on its suspension.Ive always tied mine down over the axle and around the front control arms, but I never went faster than low 10's

I use four 10000# ratcheting straps on mine and cross them so that the car can't move in any direction.

In front, I tie to the frame and compress the front suspension about an inch. In the rear, I have loops bolted to the lower shock plates.

So like most, the front suspension is tied down, but its free to move in the rear.

I did the same thing as Phil. The two outer ones are used for the tie downs, criss crossed, and the center is used for pulling the car into the trailer and for pulling the car back to the pits after a race. The center one also stays hooked to the winch while towing as a safety measure.

The rear of the car is held the same criss cross way but hooked to the rear end housing. All of my shocks are adjustable and are set to the stiffest setting while towing.

I can't tell you how many people have mistaken him for me. I'm sure he gets the same thing. Now that I have the big scoop on, it'll be harder for anyone to make that mistake anymore. Ya right.
