Trailer Tiedowns

#1 Post by 71 Nova » Sun Apr 08, 2007 10:59 pm

I've been renting a trailer to get my car to the strip (until I get one) and been wrestling with the chains and binders they provide with the trailer to tie the car down. I don't like this method at all and I always stop after 10 miles or so to cinch everything up. Plus they scratch and gouge your chassis. I don't trust this chain and binder mess at all. What are you guys using to tie down your rides? I saw these tiedowns both the over the wheel binders: http://www.mrproducts.com/index.php?cat and these: http://www.mrproducts.com/index.php?fun ... o_tie_down What works for you guys???
Thx,
Ken

Mike, I just saw a feature article on your car and can't remember where it was. It was online somewhere.

I just use axle straps and regular ole 3" 10,000lbs rachet straps. I usually cross two in the front and depending on how far Im going Ill put two on the rear also. But usually just one one the rear.

3 inch ratchet straps here also. Wal-mart about $23.00 each. They are about 243gazillion foot long. I use 1 in the front and 1 in the rear and tie the excess up throughout everything I can find to keep it off the road. Why dont I cut the excess you ask?
That would spoil the fun of spending 1/2 the day getting the car off the trailor.lol

i had my chassis guy weild 2 hooks to the front frame rails and use axle straps 2 front and rear to d rings in the floor of the trailer i have seen cars in the ditch from losing a trailer tire once a longe time ago i saw a guy that had 2 straps on the front and a come-along on the rear we hit some traffic and some one stoped short he had to stomp the brakes the come-along broke and his very cool firebird mounted the van the worse part was they had to hook chain to the back of the car and pull it out of the van..
make a plan and stick to it !!

My straps are also 243gazillion feet long but my trailer has a tool box on the front of it so I just shut the excess in the tool box.

I use 1 come-along on the front and 1 on the back. I think I will make some custom chains that will hook on one end of the RACE TRUCK "probably the front" and use 2 come-alongs on the back. This way if the comealongs are the weak point at least both of them will be working together.

I snapped a come-along and no longer use one. I use chains and binders and wire the handles to the chain so they won't pop open.

I picked up the Mac tie downs and used them today. They work great. So much better than messing with all that chain claptrap.
