Converter cores
Hello,
Can anyone tell me what the differance performancewise I should see between a saturn and opel core? I have been told that the opel core has a significant advantage. With the stall speed being the same, what would you expect?
Thanks

I don't know if this is you over on yellow bullet, but there was the same question being asked there: http://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/showt ... p?t=123487

Re: Converter cores
It is my question over there, just trying to get more views. Everyone says I will be very happy with the change, but no one has yet to explain what about the core is better. I will throw it in the car and see what happens.

Re: Converter cores
the difference between the 8" Saturn and Opel core is the amount of surface area on the pump impeller fins. The Saturn has drastically less fin area and therefore has less coupling capability. This may be ok if you have a short stroke, high rpm , light weight dragster or altered but the Saturn core is NEVER ideal , it is something some companies have settled for. This is the short version of the answer with out boring you to death. Hope this helps

Re: Converter cores
Thanks marty, that makes sense. So would you expect the car to pick up the entire way down the track or just the top end because of its more efficent lockup?

Re: Converter cores
it should work better everywhere (as long as the new converter is right for the combo)

Re: Converter cores
Thanks Marty
Looks like the converter pick me up just under a 10th. Trans temps dropped about 20 degrees over the previous converter. Makes it alot easier to hot lap that thing.
Thanks
