New cam and heads... What stall??

Hey guys just looking for some opinions on what stall you would use if you were in my shoes. I have an 11.3:1, 383. Chad Speier just did a set of 210 cc pro filers for me that flow
in ex
.100 67.9 50.4
.200 147.9 102.5
.300 204.5 140.6
.400 256.6 175.8
.500 285.4 193.8
.600 288.4 204.7
.700 290.7 212.9

The cams a billet solid roller. Durration@.050 is 251.76/264.91
net lift with 1.6/1.5 rockers is .669/.610 and a 111.55 lsa
The cam grinder recomends a stall between 4600 to 5100
The car does see steet time and i plan on running at least a 250 hit. Would you guys recomend keeping the converter on the tight side say 4600 givin the circumstances? Max usable rpm is 6900. The tranny has a lock up converter (200r4), so that should help keep the heat down. I have a big hayden trans cooler with fan, as well as a deep tranny pan. Thanks in advance for any advise or tips. The current converter is a 10 inch lock up, and i can get it restalled, or go with a completly different one if its worth the $$$ to do so.

My advice is to put it together and see what the current converter does in regards to stall speed, etc. Then send it in to be tweeked or replaced, this will give your converter guy something to reference to make changes.

Ok good plan the current stall is only 3000, If i get the new setup dyno'd before putting it in, where along the torque curve do you usually aim for??

for all out performance , you will want the converter to flash around peak torque or little above on the nitrous . Remember this will leave the converter just about a 1000 rpm too tight for nat. asp.
PS this car may fit very well in the new "entry level" heads up class @ORP if you live close enough to the Springfield,MO area (stock suspension, single n20 system,) check it out at www.ozarkracewaypark.com

I wish I lived close by Marty. I live as far north as you can go on a main hiway in nothern Alberta, Canada. I have to tow my car 5 hours to my nearest track in Edmonton, Alberta. There isn't even an engine rebuid shop in my city, because its so expensive to live. Most the older car gentelman are pretty old school and stuck in their ways. I'm younger and into the newer tech, so I rely on you guys for advise! So thanks for helping out a young gun!

I have a friend in Edmonton, Alberta. His name is Jimmy Dixon and he is a very good racing engine builder and cylinder head man. If you ever need his phone number just call me. (316-542-9869) He is also a trany builder.

Awsome, good to know I'm in the market for a new short block. What shop does he work for or own? I'll probably be giving you a shout for a new converter when i get this set up put together. Do you do many for 200r4's?

the name of his company is Phantom Performance, I met him back in the 1980's . He did a set of gm big block chevy heads for me that flowed 430 cfm (my dad had Reigher &Morrison do the same heads -flowed 380) and in the 80's those were big flow numbers, and he is very reasonable on price.
As for do we do "alot" of 200R4 converters , not really as they were only popular in the GN and most of those guys eventually went th400, but when your ready , give me a call and we can fix you up. Marty

Hey guys, I finnaly made it to the track with my new combo... and there's something up!!! I ended up with a 421" sbc. On 91 octane pump fuel it made 600hp@67000 and 542ft/lbs@4900. With race fuel and a lil 150 shot, it made 752hp@6500 and 734ft/lbs@4900..... very fat tune up... Anyway, I send the dyno sheets to the guys who built my tranny and converter. I told them to set it up more towards the nitrous cuve. They recomended a 3400rpm stall. I thought this was low, but always hear of nitrous converters being tighter, so gave it a shot. On the trans-brake the flipping thing stalls at 2700..... so i step my 2step down to 2500 as not to stall it completely. This gave me epic 1.9 60fts all night (haven't used nitrous yet).. the best it pulled was a 1.86.... and i'm not spinning... I have 4.10 rear gear and 255 mickey street radials in the rear...... My tranny was also shifting from 1st to 3rd on me, dropping my rpm from 7000rpm to 4000.... probably not helping the e.ts either. I was consitant as hell though 12.50's @ 111mph all night, haha. Tracks 2200ft above sea level. What do you guys think this heap will run n/a when I get the converter/shifter cable issues sorted out?

Well I got the shifter cable problem fixed, It must have stretched a lil since new. Shorted it up about 1/8th of an inch and it shifts into second again! It seem to still drop a quite a bit of rpm. From 7000 to 5000. Marty are you guys set up to re-stall my junk, or could I send my extra converter for you to look at as far as dimention wise. It's still in my 200r4, but the transmission has a custom 300m billet steel 30 spline ls style input shaft. Let me know if you can do anything with this set up, and i'll give you a shout.

i hate to tell you we do not do the 200R4 race converters. If your not in a big rush (couple weeks) i could make an acception and change the stall for you. Marty
