Ams oil makes a synthetic compressor oil that works very well and it is available in several viscositys. For most apps we see the 20W being used (nitrous , blower or turbos that spool easy)
lightweight 6.9 senistoke for nat asp or turbos that need a quicker spool time

call them and ask for the lightest viscosity compressor oil they have and ask the viscosity. If you cant find it call Keith Neal , he keeps it in stock

Marty, is this 10w ok to use for the trans???
http://www.amsoil.com/a/Synthetic-Compr ... Lubricants

I have also used tractor Hydra/trans fluid (non-Synthetic)in this trans so can I just drain it and fill it using a new converter that I will get from you??

the 10w will work but if you are looking for a higher flash stall then the light weight is what you want. I could not find it on ams oil web site and i have not used the ams oil myself but have had many customers that used it with great success. You can call Red Line and order their light weight synthetic it is the same 6.9 senistoke and i use this myself. Red Line 800-624-7958 ask for Kelly or Camron and tell them Marty Chance told you to call and they will hook you up

What ever happened to running just F-type trans fluid? It's worked for 30 yrs. For my needs. I have a buddy that has run everything from fish oil to tractor hydraulic oil and insisted the tractor hydraulic oil worked the best, that was until a trans rebuild guy talked him into putting F-type back in it. The trans has now lasted twice as long as it did with anything else.
Hmmmm! Compressor oil, tractor hydraulic oil, fish oil and all the other stuff people us. Which NONE of it is designed to work in a transmission.

So will someone please explain to me why use all this other suff. Am I missing something?

we use different viscosity fluids for different results. A lighter fluid will flash stall higher and a heavier fluid will flash stall less and the standard weight is approx 10 weight on trans fluid (type f). if your trans lasted twice as long on type f than hydraulic fluid i do not think it was due to the hydraulic fluid.

As Marty said, the different viscosities allow for fine tuning of the stall speeds. Another reason for use of the compressor oil is the much higher flashpoint it has which can be very important to the turbo cars that need to spool. I saw a tranny fluid fire from an O/L 10.5 car when it was having trouble spooling and it spread quickly.

Ok, so do you add an additive to the compressor oil for the band and disc pack? What about friction modifier's for band and gear packs?

No friction modifiers. For racing purposes only, you don't want anything in there to make the clutch pack slip. Losing horsepower and shift efficiency if you do.

I find this to be a very interesting subject. I have seen this talked about before, but not paid much attention to it. My current stall piont is approx, 4100/4200. What would be the approximate change in stall piont and is this o.k. for a street/strip app? Thanks p.s. I can give more info if needed

Approx stall differences for a Nat Asp 750 HP motor 400 "ish" ci
we will say the "base" stall with type F is 6000 (type F = 10W approx)
6.9 senistoke will stall approx 6150-6250 Red Line light weight synthetic
20W hydraulic will stall approx 5800
30W hydraulic will stall approx 5650
40W hydraulic will stall approx 5550
50W hydraulic will stall approx 5450
Note this changes with evey motor combo

And yes we have used 50W hydraulic fluid or even motor oil in the trans before. One of the outlaw 10.5 cars from the GA area used 50W in there nitrous car for years

Thanks Marty. So approx 2to4% change, is the % of change more or less as the power goes up or down ? I have around 525 hp. Thanks
