Marty can I get your opinion

#1 Post by ky mustang » Tue Jan 18, 2011 2:19 pm

I have a naturally aspirated bbf 562 cid conventional head (p-51) in a 2400lb chassis mustang with a pg transmission. The engine was dynoed on q-16 and carb. I have switched to injection and m-5 methanol
dyno sheet
RPM TQ HP
5500 763.9 800
5600 767.1 817.9
5700 767.5 833
5800 771.3 851.8
5900 776.2 872
6000 786.9 899
6100 785.5 912.3
6200 780.9 921.9
6300 776.5 931.4
6400 768.5 936.5
6500 760.2 940.8
6600 752.9 946.1
6700 745.2 950.6
6800 734.2 950.6
6900 724.1 951.3
7000 713.3 950.7

It has 60' 1.07 -1.08 , (1.05 1 time) in mine shaft air and normally around 1.09 - 1.12 depending on the track. Et is around 5.03-5.10 around 135-137 mph 1/8 mile. I have ran 4.86 gears and 4.30 it seems to like a higher launch rpm (6000 rpm) with 4:30 gears . Not near as sensitive to launch rpm with 4:86 but et's very close with both gears.

I am running an 8" spragless converter stalling about 6350 rpm. 105" circ tires , shifting at 7200 and crossing the line about 7250 -7300 rpm. I have ran it to 1000' with 4.86 gears and it et 6.665 @ 7600 rpm.

Do you think I am leaving much on the table , have though about trying 5:13 or so gears ?

sound like the combo is pretty close. do you know what the rpm drop is on the shift? The 5.13 gear may help it accelerate better especially in high gear where the spragless will hold back the engine rpm rate and may help the launch be more consistant by allowing you to leave from a lower rpm chip

It falls back to about 6650 on m-5 and about 6450- 6500 on regular methanol. It et's a full tenth quicker on m-5. Thank you sir for your time and opinion.

Here is a launch video if it will help

GREAT LOOKING CAR
i would try the 5.13 gear , it may also help control wheel speed on the launch. 6650 drop is ok for 1/8 mile and may help consistancy in the hot months. Overall my opinion is your converter is working pretty good , try the 5.13 and let us know how it works
