What would you change in my setup?

What would you change in my setup?
Would you change to a dominator carb like a holley 8896-1 or do you think my carb is fine. Also what do you think about my cam for my setup, car will be on a 300 shot. My goals are low 10's high 9's on motor and high 8's on juice. here are the specs.
434 sbc 11.1 compression Afr 227 eliminator heads with jesel 1.5 shaft rockers
264 272 @ 50 109 lobe sep 648 626
1 7/8 hooker super comp 3 inch exhaust
super victor intake 2925 with 1 inch spacer and 850 mighty demon.
turbo 400 4500 stall 4.10 gears
car is about 3200#s 69 nova
thanks

Re: What would you change in my setup?
The only thing I see I would question is the carb. I've tuned lots and even owned a Demon. Real finiky carbs. I would say change to a Holley 1000 hp 4150 and call Pro Systems for your carb needs.

Re: What would you change in my setup?
I would agree with Supernova about the carb. Im not at all a nitrous guy but I think you would want a cam with a wider lobe separation but that would be just a guess.
Re: What would you change in my setup?
I think the lobe separation's ok depending on the size tire he's running. If it's a small tire like mine (275/60/15-MT, DR) I would leave it alone. I he's has bigger tires that can stand more hit then I would spread it out some more. My lobe separation is closer than his with a much bigger motor. 276-283 @ .050sc racing wrote:I would agree with Supernova about the carb. Re: What would you change in my setup?
Your carb is FINE...but would rather see the Dominator.
I agree wiith the 109* seperation being to tight, a different cam around 112-114* would help build cylinder pressures and make the motor more nitrous friendly.
the wider lobe seperation will also help the part throttle attitude of the Dominator making it work better.

Re: What would you change in my setup?
the car has a 28 x 10 slick i might just run it and borrow my friends 1050 dominator and see if it picks up.
Re: What would you change in my setup?
I was looking at afr 235 heads would you swap to those heads over my race ready 227 eliminators. I was thinking maybe a 30 hp gain but who knows i would also get 1.6 rockers so my cam would be bigger. I also thought about getting a converter speciffically designed for my setup. I think a converter would help more than anything.
Re: What would you change in my setup?
Borrowing the dominator would be a good start but know that just bolting it on in most cases doesn't work out. It might need lots of tunning to get it running right. Dominators like to see signals from bigger motors with bigger cams. My Pro Systems Holley 1000 cfm hp 4150 carb has metering blocks and mods that are like a dominator carb the get my big motor to run RIGHT. So don't be surprised if it doesn't work at first. Spend some time to get it right.434 nova wrote:the car has a 28 x 10 slick i might just run it and borrow my friends 1050 dominator and see if it picks up.

Re: What would you change in my setup?
Hey instead of getting new heads that are not worked on (ported). How about sending your heads off and having them worked. Thats what I did and they came out great. I sent them to Mike Stark at CFM Perfornance. Your heads worked will work better than any out of the box up grade for your SB. And you will spend less, get more for your money!!!!434 nova wrote:I was looking at afr 235 heads would you swap to those heads over my race ready 227 eliminators. Give Mike a call and talk to him about what he could do for your set up!!!

And please tell him Chris Madland referred you.

Re: What would you change in my setup?
More compression would help.
If you're looking to upgrade the top end of the motor, I've got a nice 18 degree setup for sale. Its what I've been running for quite a while. I've gone as fast as 5.48 and 128 mph in the 1/8th on a 26x8.5 tire at 3200 lbs. More left in it. $3200 asking price for heads, intake, rockers, cam, pushrods, stud girdles, etc. The flow 350/278 cfm.

Re: What would you change in my setup?
Or if you get the new 235s, or buy Craigs setup let me know if you want to get rid of the 227's. I may be interested in them for my ride. It would like to have a real motor instead of just the little 355, and 360 I have for it. ![Cool 8-)](./images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)

Re: What would you change in my setup?
Supernova, i called cfm today and he going to port my intake manifold Mike is a nice guy. I am going to get the new 235 from afr so i should see some gains i might even have mike work those over if my budget allows for it. He told me to expect about 20 horsepower over a non ported 2925 intake. My combo should be alot better with more compression, 1.6 rockers, prosystems carb, ported manifold and i going with a chance converter. My new winter build. And to the other guy i have the heads sold but if that falls thru i will let you know. The heads and jesel setup i sold for 1850 shipped. Good deal for zero miles on them with a few startups in the garage. Thanks for all you guys help.

Re: What would you change in my setup?
Got my manifold back from Mike at CFM it looks really nice. Do you think i will pick up 20+ hp like he said verse a non ported intake 2925. Thanks i will post pictures latter.
Re: What would you change in my setup?
I think it'll do the job. What about your heads?
