Solid Roller Warm Up
Do any of you guys have a special procedure of ritual you go by to start and warm up a solid roller street motor. I know they can be sensitive to certain conditions, and lots of people go through a special procedure to help the roller lifters live longer. Thanks

Re: Solid Roller Warm Up
Just my own personal thought, dont let it idle alot when its cold, the lifters dont get the oil they need, just bring the rpm up a little like 2000 or so, get that oil moving and splashing around.
My opinion only, not sure what its worth.

Start it up.....put your foot to the floor .....hang on
I never did anything special but the life of the lifter depends on your spring rates and lobe design and rpm. What kind do you have, are they pressure fed or just the regular ones.

They are the comp cams ones. Like 400.00 bucks, the ones my builder recommended knowing it was gonna see quite a bit of street duty. I dont know the spring rates, I will find out.

Re: Solid Roller Warm Up
When I had my camaro I had the basic Crane horizontal bar type they were about 4 years old before replacing them. It was a mild cam only .670 lift.
Re: Solid Roller Warm Up
Good luck with the Comps. Seen a few failures with less than 50 passes.
Re: Solid Roller Warm Up
Your 'mild cam' has *only* .670 lift ?sc racing wrote:When I had my camaro I had the basic Crane horizontal bar type they were about 4 years old before replacing them. It was a mild cam only .670 lift.

Re: Solid Roller Warm Up
We went thru different 3 cam and lifterset ups due to the solid roller lifters not oiling at cruise rpm 2500-2750 ish. We finally got the right lifters (hipo)and havent had a problem in over 5000 miles with the new lifters. Mild cam 245@ .50 .650 lift. So dont make the same mistake we did and get the street duty high pressure oiling lifters the first time for a street car. Im not sure if the price has come down but we were paying almost a grand for each cam and lifter.
Re: Solid Roller Warm Up
isky red zones are rebuildable, for that reason i bought em...now they have the ez roll option, hear nothin but good reviews on those!
i take my 4.5 stroke motor to 7500 no probs oh by the way they are self oiling too

Re: Solid Roller Warm Up
you have to modify the lifter to move oil at lower rpm your springs and cold valve settings determin how long your stuff lives. take your valve covers off and let it idle you won't see any oil try this before you jump the gun you need to think this through! no oil to the rockers no oil through the lifter. it's that simple,

Re: Solid Roller Warm Up
i will try and make this short.. first take a lifter put it in the block ck where the oil hole is,, did you just figure out that the hole is in the flat part of the bore and doesen't hit the lube passage? reason for no oling,, the ones that have a bleed hole in the main channel will oil at all times.if you have this type of lifter and still have a oil problem then something in the pushrod to lifter/rocker is over extending and closing off the passage, geometry problem, that you found buy now, due to the burnt up stuff,.the previous type is referd to as edge orphace oiling.. make a slight grove in the side of the lifter from the hole to the oil band, you have just opend up a lube channel, and i repeat small drimel .025x.025 is more than plenty, we also see bigger problems with aftermarket blocks as the bores are tighter and meant to be honed to final size, used stuff is already worn to wider clearances...hope this helps,

Re: Solid Roller Warm Up
basic crower comp and the howards and even some of the lower end pbm's, i think the isky red zones and crower hippo's are internal passaged,, just ways to move more oil to the top, we have some stuff with spray rails in the valve covers, and some marine blower stuff with piston oilers all kinds of,, i think this will help.. LOL!!
