timing on sbc
408 sbc,, 12 to 1 cr, comp cam xr292,dart pro one 230 heads,, crank trigger and locked timing, digital 7 box, looking for timing ballpark numbers. thinking 36-38 total.. does that seem a good place to start
Re: timing on sbc
What kind of fuel? 34*-38* should be a good place to start on race gas.
Re: timing on sbc
sc, i will use c12 at the track and pump fuel on the street.. our pump fuel here in england is 98 super unleaded and 93 regular unleaded
Re: timing on sbc
on my 385 13 to 1 afr 210 cnc race heads
run locked 33 degrees
on dyno made most power at 34 at 36 was getting a slight detonation
i run 110 fuel
run locked 33 degrees
on dyno made most power at 34 at 36 was getting a slight detonation
i run 110 fuel
Re: timing on sbc
I would pay close attention when using the pump fuel you should probably retard your total timing a bit for the street.zephyrc wrote:sc, i will use c12 at the track and pump fuel on the street.. our pump fuel here in england is 98 super unleaded and 93 regular unleaded
Re: timing on sbc
how far should i retard it for the street,, should i start about 32 on the street
Re: timing on sbc
Hard to say, 12:1 is not easy to run on pump gas unless the engine was designed for it. Piston & chamber shape play a big part in keeping it from detonating among other factors but with 98 octane yoy might be ok.Just a guess I would try 30-32*. retarding timing a lot will make it run hot also.zephyrc wrote:how far should i retard it for the street,, should i start about 32 on the street
