rocker shaft
Building a street worthy 360 and wondering if an aftermarket rocker shaft assembly is better or should i just pickup a set of magnum stud mount heads?
Re: rocker shaft
is your cam a big solid roller or a hyd cam?
I have them on my lil 385 its got a big solid roller cam in it and it was a lot of extra money but worth it for me, for lots of people they woundnt go that route, for me it was best choice

Re: rocker shaft
Unless you've got money burning a hole in your pocket I really don't see shaft mount rockers as being necessary on a street car with mild cam.

I agree with John, having been on both sides of the fence.
I have replaced the standard roller rocks with shaft mount Jesel's over the winter because of issues the standard roller rocker system was having. (always out of adjustment and rocker studs coming loose). The shaft mounts are very expensive but needed in my case. My motor was out performing the standard roller rocker system and a failure was inevitable. You know what they say "pay now or pay later"!
For the street, the standard stuff works just fine unless you have money to spend.

Re: rocker shaft
Sounds like you already have a set of 360 heads with stock shafts is that correct? If you have the intake etc to go with the heads use them, if you have to buy everything anyway get the Magnum heads they are pretty good and as you know have studs for easy rocker adjustment instead of adjustable pushrods.
Re: rocker shaft
what is the point of adjustable pushrods? is it mainly used on shaft mount since no adjustments can be made?

Re: rocker shaft
Maybe I'm missing something here, but the only time I've used adjustable pushrods is during mock up to figure out the correct pushrod length. Unless there's something I don't know about that's all they are used for in race applications.

John he has a 360 mopar engine the stock configuration has shafts with no adjustment, either he has to get adjustable rockers or pushrods but the Magnum heads he's thinking of getting are designed like sbc with studs.John_Heard wrote:Maybe I'm missing something here, but the only time I've used adjustable pushrods is during mock up to figure out the correct pushrod length. Birkey, the reason you would want adjustable pushrods or rockers is to have the ability to get the correct lifter preload, if the engine was completely factory stock you wont need them but once the block is decked, heads milled, different head gasket is used, cam change, etc, etc you will want to be able to adjust them.I would go with adj rockers over pushrods.
