power to run 10's
I have a question for all the gen 2 nova guys.
I was wondering what kinda power it took to get into the tens and with what engine, trans, gear combo? Here is what im starting within my 74 nova.
496
forged scat bottom
13 to 1 comp
252/264@.50 .714 lift roller cam
i havent decided on the top end.... im leaning towards the brodix bb2 plus heads and intake and a 1050 dominator.
what do you think shold i be close to the 10's in the thin montana air, the last race i went to in september corrected elevation was 9500+ ft.
thanks for any and all imput

That combo ought to easily get you into the 10's with a decent set of heads and intake - IF you were running somewhere besides the top of a mountain! I'm not to sure how bad that's going to hurt you what maybe 2-3 tenths or more?
Say with a 28" tall tire, TH400 I'd say start with a 4:10 rear gear, maybe 4:30? That's what I used to have in mine a few years ago with a somewhat similar sized engine.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Moose. Pro Stock cars routinely loose 4-5 tenths over a sea level track. I think Denver's record is in the seven oh's and most runs when the air is bad is a couple of tenths slower than that. Warren Johnson said he'd encountered air in the 10,000 ft. D.A. range. He further stated "the air is so thin, the birds are walking". That motor could make anywhere from 550-725 H.P. depending on what heads, cam, etc. at sea level but the relatively high compression will help a lot at altitude. Has this combination ever been run anywhere? In a medium weight car it should be able to run 10s, even at Denver. A stocker from here looses about 7-8 tenths at Denver if it's hot. AFR 305cc with the CNC chamber would be my recommendation for heads milled for maximum compression. You may have to index your plugs but at altitude the compression will make tons of difference in the way the motor runs according to a friend who used to build Pro Stock Motorcycle engines.MOOSE wrote:Moose Racing Announcement
