Header paint

#1 Post by sunman » Tue Oct 09, 2007 7:52 am

I have a set of Boat headers from Shoenfeld, they came unpainted, they said that allot of racers dont paint, they apply trany fluid to the headers to treat them, and they turn a gun metal blue, they said it's like seasoning
a B-B-Q grill.....
will they still rust, do U have 2do it from time to time? or just paint'em

I would send them to HPC coatings and get them coated. The coating will last much much longer than anything painted on and will stay looking good. A set of V-8 headers costs around $250 and have a year warrinty on the coating. HPC's number is 405-789-2888 they are located in Oklahoma city, OK give them a call an see what they can do for you.

Dang, I want to see someone try this pour the oil on the headers thing sometime...

Well really I don't want to be very close when they try it. ATF has a real low flashpoint might be quite the show if it ignites. But I have heard that story before about it working too.. Just never seen it done before.

There is a really good coating place over in St. Augustine, which means you could probably just drive them over and save the cost on shipping. I will see if I can dig up the name and number.

I've seen headers coated in ATF. They look alot better than you would think.

Por15 make a product called Por20 its a bright silver (looks like HPC) it works good but you sandblast first to give it something to stick to.
