john, the intake was never cut,nor was the heads, or block deck for that matter,i also sealed the intake twice with a little silicone and i had to pry the intake to get it off.hears what i have done so far:re-sealed intake twice
resealed rocker studs twice
valve seals are diong their job wiping oil off
motor doesn't blow blue light colored smoke at idle, only when you rev it up around 5-6000 rpm you get a wisp of blue and seems to smoke at top end of race track.
this one has me stumped, hoping i don't have to tear down the engine to dive in deeper

What about sucking oil from around the valve guides?

Is it nesessary to have a vacuum pump with low tension rings? What type of evac system or pcv system do you have?Any remote possibility that the heads or ported too much and the pushod hole goes into the port?Ive seen that on a lot of small blocks but I dont if you can do it to a BB head.

steve the vacume pump helps with the low tension rings and gas ported pistons, my heads are cnc-ported and pushrodsare not near the ports like a small block. i dont have a pvc/evac just the vacume pump,it pulles 4-5inches at idle and 15-inches at 7000-plusrpm.

ok, i fgound the problem, the intake is not sealing against the heads very good.i need to machine the intake to fit, as its seems to be sealing at the top of the gasket but not very much at the bottom.my question is:how much do i cut off the intake sides? is their a formula?i will be having a friend cut it on a bridgeport, any answers anyone???

check the ends make sure it's not bottoming out.. use the proper gasket thick/thin and a thin feeler guage pushit in at the bottom and go up till it stops. keep adding amounts till it won't go up then that's the diff top to bottom angle.

we had to cut a differen't amount from top/bottom, wich baffels me because heads were never cut, block never decked, and intake never cut.....will let ya know how it works out...thanks guys.

hey guys, its been a while but i wanted to update everybody on my oil issue i my ports[as if any body cares lol].well i finally found the culprit,it was the oil rings, yup, what a kick in the ass so to speak .i really didn't think i woild have to dive into the bottom end of the motor but the problem was too low of a tension oil rings.now i'm not going to name the company who sold me the rings, but i measured tension, with a fich scale and i was getting10-12 lbs,but when the motor reached operating temp, the tension probably dropped lower, and the car would smoke, and get oil up into to the intake plenum.now, if any of you want to get a lesson in piston rings, call total seal, namely keith jones the guy is great to talk to and we got to the root of the problem[actually him and a friend of mine did], as i was at my wits end.i must have pulled the motor out twice a week for like two weeks straight checking things, and after i talked to keith @ total seal, we settled on a medium tension oil ring. this past week i went to the track,no more smoke at the top end, no more oil in plenum and car ran its bestet-mph so far with little tunning,so i just wanted to say thanks to all who offered any insight/ideas,suggestions ect,ect...now i can't wait to go back to the track ;)

What is the vacuum pump worth in e.t.? I am contemplating getting one, just havent pulled the trigger yet. I'm running a pumpgas 505 with low tension rings, no oil control problems, turns 6k thru the 1/8th, 7k thru the 1/4 mile.
