Difference Between Hooker Comp & Super Comp Headers

#1 Post by MMAX » Wed May 28, 2008 10:16 pm

What's the main difference besides tubing material? Will a super competition header give me a noticible increase in power over a competition model? I have a set of super comps with a badly pinched tube and a new pair of comps availible to me. Both have 2" primaries and 3.5" collectors. They are going to be used on a 582 BB Chev w/790hp & 736 ft/lbs of torque. Would you use the comps or get the super comps fixed?

The comps are basically a multi fit header without a choice of tube sizes, they make a few different part numbers to fit a wide variety of applications. The Supercomps are for specific applications and should usually fit better also you can choose from some different sizes. The ones you are comparing probably have different length primaries.Only the dyno or the track will tell you if you lost or made power.

I woudnt say they suck ,of course there are better headers out there but for the people on a small budget they get the job done. The car in my avitar had a crate 454 with 2" Hooker Comps and ran 10.30's @130 weighed 3400lbs. Not bad for parts that "suck".

I never have had any problem with them fitting on anything I have had them on.

They fit decent but the collectors hang down too low. I have better fitment out of my Hedmans and the ball and socket collector is :bling:

Now that you mention it, the collectors do hang down kind of low. Never really payed much attention to that until now.

Yes they do hang down pretty low. I had to carry a set of blocks with me to raise the back end of my truck up so they wouldn't catch my trailer when I loaded and unloaded my car.

Same here. Drive truck up on ramps and still have to use block to keep mine from hanging where the dovetail meets the deck.

You can run early camaro headers on the older full size GM trucks and the collectors will have more ground clearance.
