timing curve

#1 Post by jaspermaggie » Sun Jun 29, 2008 7:25 am

what should my timing curve be? 355 chevy, trickflow heads, 480/494 228/234 110, 750 holley, th350 3000 stall, 3.73. Run the car 850rpm to 6200 cam is 2600-6200. Also use nitrois some on at 3200. I use the car on the street most of the time.
My car is not as fast as I think it is.

I run locked out. But as long as it's full advance about 2500 you will be OK. If you don't lock out your distributor, I would have it mechanically limited so that it has about 15 or so degrees total movement. That way it can fall back 15 degrees or 18 or whatever. And it will crank better. If you are set it at 38 deg overall then it can fall back to 23 degrees when it stops. Use the lightest springs you can get so it comes in quick. I wouldn't worry much about the curve as long as it was full advance about 2500. That's where I would want mine if it was me.

But I don't use a vaccume advance either. And don't like them except for road queens.

i recently locked my distributor and added a start/retard switch. the msd unit retards the ignition when starting, and it has a retard function when nos is applied. i wish i had done this years ago, so much easier to tune !
