Fuel Cell question
When I went to the Magnafuel pump I knew that i had to increase to a #12 AN bung and line to the inlet side of the pump. I decided last weekend to do this finally and get rid of the #8 that I had in place. In doing this, I had to increase the hole size in the fuel cell to accept the larger fitting. Now, I can't get this thing to seal worth a crap. It leaks enough that it drips off the back of the cell underneath the fitting about once every 30-50secs. That's not gonna cut it.
I tried tightening the fittings more but that doesn't work as it just keeps leaking. These are good quality AN fittings with the white neoprene washers. My father hates the plastic fuel cells, mine is a Jegs special :) and always raves about how nice his aluminum one is. So, should I just quit messing with this plastic crap and buy a nice aluminum one? Jegs sells a nice one for 179.00 with no sending unit (cause who gives a crap how much gas I have in the cell, I can't stop at the gas station on the way home to fill up anyhow)
HAHA I wouldnt want to hear my motor with 15:1 trying to light the candles on 93octane...
Thanks for any advice guys!

Re: Fuel Cell question
You're going to have a hard time finding an aluminum cell with #12 outlets, even #10's are only available in certain models. Not sure if anyone makes one?

Re: Fuel Cell question
How did you enlarge the hole for the #12 fitting? Was there a little burr on the plastic after you made the larger hole? That could keep it from sealing. Also how round is the hole after you enlarged it? It may just not be sealing in every spot. The hole needs to be just barely big enuff for the bulk head fitting to slip thru. Sounds like you might have to get yourself another cell if the plastic isn't burred up causing it not to seal.

Re: Fuel Cell question
I used a stepped drill bit but once I got past the #10 size it was a bit to small for the job so I just "improvised" which I knew was probably going to cause me grief. i was careful, but I probably didn't get it round enough and it is just barely large enough for the bung to slip through but it is a rough cut. Plus the cell is old, about 5yrs now, and the front of it, for whatever reason, is distorted a bit, that's probably not helping my situation any.
I think I'm going to go with a aluminum one and just get the #10 welded in a shop near here.

Re: Fuel Cell question
i had the same problem. so i put a copper washer on the inside and no washer on the outside. plus i used a very slight amount of permatex( the stuff that doesnt harden and doesnt get eaten up by fuel) i did this 1 year ago with zero leaks now
hope this helps

Re: Fuel Cell question
When I put the new 10 gallon aluminum cell in my car, I found one that was made with bulkhead fittings instead of ones that are welded in, and then like yourself, I used a step bit to enlarge the hole, debured it a little, and installed a #12 bulkhead, with teflon washers on both sides. So far no leaks.
I am not really sure what the question is, but I am pretty sure the answer is Big Block.

Re: Fuel Cell question
this 5 gallon cell comes with -10 outlets.

when i got an alum 10 gallon cell from summit several years ago, it came with -10 outlets.
the box was house brand, but the cell was RCI.

Re: Fuel Cell question
I ended up buying a aluminum one from Jegs that had a #8 bung welded in, I went and cut that out with a cut off wheel and went down to the local welding shop and they tigged me in a #12 so now I'll never have worries of fuel. And it looks great because while I had the cell out, I decided to clean up the trunk and the battery hold down.
Now the trunk, which was the ugliest area of the car, is sharp enough to leave open at the local hang outs and cruises.

Re: Fuel Cell question
I'm Gonna try this same thing, I got a -12AN Fitting coming and will drill out the hole that has the 8AN
,If It doesn't seal I'll try some fuel resistant epoxy etc, I'll give updates when completed.

Re: Fuel Cell question
Thought I would update this thread, got the hole drilled out with my step drill and then used my die grinder with carbide bit to open it ever so slightly for the 12AN fitting, It took some doing but i got it I believe, The biggest issue was this new sump only is 1 1/2 deep compared to 2' on my old 12 gallon one, so the nut was very close to the bottom of the cell, but i got some steel shims to place behind a thicker nylon washer on the outside, inside i just used the shim with the nut. It seems to be leak free thus far!! The jegs 8AN leaked right away, had to really snug it down to stop, but it did.
