92 geo nightmare

#1 Post by speedracer119 » Sat Dec 27, 2008 1:06 pm

i have a non racecar related issue that i need some help with. i have a 92 geo tracker that runs great at an idle or if you bring the throttle up slowly. but when i floor it the engine bogs down and the rpm wont pick up. but if i restrict the fuel return line the engine will run normally.
i have already replaced : injector, tps sensor, coil, distrbuter, oxygen sensor, fuel pressure regulator, ecm, checked the timing belt and its on right. and now im out of ideas. what eles could it be?

well i would check the vaccuum line that goes to the regulator but you are discribing low fuel pressure problem did you check the fuel pressure to see what you have and is it a tbi or multi port injection i bet you it is either the fuel pump or a clog fuel filter no one ever changes there fuel filters on there daily driver

it is a tbi. and it has 75 lbs of pressure, the vacume line is correct, andthe fuel filter is new. i have gone over everything on this car and nothing has fixed the problem. when i look down the throttle body and make it bog the injector quits squirting fuel.

I've seen where the ground wire on the fuel pump is rotten from the inside out and has such a poor ground that the fuel pump won't build enough pressure/volume to fuel anything other than idle.

Did you put the fuel pressure gauge on and drive it with the gauge taped to the windshield so you can see it??? If you just checked pressure with it idling you really checked nothing. If fuel pressure is low change the filter 1st then drive it again.... You need to have the problem to check it properly. Let us know....

Have you checked inside the tbi unit where the pressure line goes in for trash? It sounds like trash or perhaps the diaphram in the tbi unit has collapsed. You can get a rebuild kit for these for @60 bucks it comes with a diaphram, new spring, and o-rings. :thumb:

I've experienced that with my Geo Metro that whenever I run at a slow pace of acceleration, it idles a lot but when I step on the pedal roughly the car would accelerate good. I wasn't troubled at first because I thought it wasn't an issue. But when my friend drove my car he told me to check for it. I noticed that the fuel pump was not supplying enough engine on my car and that's the cause of the idle. Whenever the fuel pump fails to work in your car and supplies inconsistent fuel, the engine wouldn't work fine. I needed to search for Geo repair tips and guides in order for me to fix it and I was really thankful to all those tips that I've read about fuel pump repair. I managed to fix my car with it.
