How Much is a .030 327 worth?

#1 Post by Ls7camaro » Wed Aug 19, 2009 11:50 am

Need some opinions:

327, 2 bolt, .030, TRW pistons, compression is 9.6 to 1
Stock rods, beed blasted and crank was cut .010 under.
Everything was balanced, Fluidampr 6.5 balancer.
Crane Camshaft adv. 302 duration / .501 lift, 1.6 crane stamped steel rockers
New crane springs, larger diameter and crane retainers.
Heads are 462 casting 1.94 intake and ex was opened up to 1.60, hardened valve seats.
Valves are manley performance, they were a mid road valve.
Performer RPM intake, Moroso 7 qt pan, new moroso oil pump, again a mid road, not a over the top expense item.

In a 79 camaro that wghd in at 3450, TH350 and 4.10 gears, it ran 13.15, in my dad's nova, same trans and rearend, taller tire, the car ran 13.002 and that was minimal tuning, it could have used a good carb adjustment and him getting up on the converter more.

So here's the question, whats this motor worth?

When I needed cash(lost job) I was down to 500 dollars, and the guy kept lowballing me, I got a job and raised the price back to 1000. I told someone 800 2 weeks ago and he laughed? I am looking for 1000(you can tell I am working, I would like the money, but I can always sit on this thing as a spare)

All Opinions are welcome, or any tips on marketing / selling this.

THANK YOU ALL.
I can't wait for race season, this has got to be the year.

I don't think your too far off. You have a lot of stuff for sale. In my opinion you have to ask yourself about the people who are looking to buy motors like yours. They are usually broke and can't affford to buy the parts new, usually people like this will grind your teeth down to the point where they are wanting your stuff for free. I have come across a lot of people like this and frankly I am getting sick of it. Yeah the economy is poor but don't insult people. I would stick to you guns and don't give the stuff away.

I'll get off my soap box now. :thumb:

When I'm asking a $1000 and offered $800 I usually counter with $1200. I figure if they think the can whittle the price down on me I can raise the price on them. I ask what I want...not where they want to haggle to. But then again, I don't have to sell anything I have. So I'm not above setting on thing if it's worth the price.

BTW,...is this a large or small journal block?

Its a 69 327, and a two bolt block, so I think its the large journal. I think the 67 and earlier are the small journal correct? I think the earlier motors have the press on balancers, this one is a bolt on.

If I don't sale it, I was thinking of looking at a set of Vortec heads.

This motor comes alive from 2000 to 6500. I used to race against a guy in a 440 charger, we both would run almost identical, but the first 1/8th he would run away but by the 1000' mark, I was on him and could edge him a bit, boy did that fry him(his 440 was mostly stock except for headers, intake and carb, I think he ran a 3.90 rear gear)

$800 was a fair offer on a used engine I think if you were asking $1000....hell the other guy would be stupid to pay the asking price  I would have hit you at $500  :D and at one time you were asking $500 so I would have been close...

Under $500 is just someone wasting your time on a running engine.
