#1 Post by Craig W. » Thu Aug 27, 2009 10:47 pm

What do you guys think? Who has the baddest 18 degree head out there for a big inch small block?

Anyone have the Monster 18s from RFD?

i just cant figure out why for the cost when someone builds a 18 degree sbc, they dont build a big chevy?

figure on most components being close to same price(crank, heads and block might be slightly more) but for power levels why run a 750 hp sbc on the ragged side when you can run 800 hp with a 540 or larger soooo safely!!!!

750 hp sbc requires lots of cam and compression, and thats getting close to maxing out motor.....with 750 hp it can be done with bbc 540 cubes with 10.5:1 compression and so so cam.but here is the kicker, the big chevy will gulp up a big shot hit of nitrous(400 EXTRA HORSEPOWER) nooooo problem!!! id be scared to put 400 shot of spray in a sbc

Because I don't want to add 200 lbs to my setup, have to buy a new block, new headers, etc.

Hooking on a 8.5" slick is all about weight bias. Iron big blocks don't fair well in 8.5.

I'm already running Brodix 18X heads. So its a relatively small change to go to something better like the Monster 18 heads.

750 hp small block is not that ragged edge. I'm looking for a good bit more power than that.

Some people just like small blocks. Besides, lest say you are running a 434 or 440 small block. Throw on a set of 18 degree heads, and that motor now has better intake runners than a 24 degree big block, plus big block sized valves. Your little 434 or 440 (and to think these things get as big as 472) just threw it's "mouse" stigma out the window. It now has a big block attitude and power output, and like above, not the weight. And you can make 750, or 800 with 12.5 compression and run e-85 on the street. But, i will stick to my big blocks. Mine is only a 496, one day I will grow up and build something in the 600 cu in range for a pump gas motor.
