Might be Harold is thinking about Aluminum Rods. I clearanced my 4.25 stroke 505 with Lunati Pro Mod steel rods, and it took quite a bit of grinding to get them in there. I'm sure that aluminum would have taken a lot more.

Can you get aluminum rods in a 4.5" stroke without problems? I suppose it might be possible, but I think I'd want it done on a CNC mill by someone that knows exactly where those passages are supposed to be.

Mine has "H" beam rods in it. Bet you couldn't get a aluminum rod to fit... Here's some pics of the motor. It took a lot of grinding.
