Is there any reason I shouldn't have a pcv valve on my ride. Currently I have a pcv valve off the back of my carb to one valve cover and a breather on the other side. My theory when I was younger is that this would help suck on the crankcase a little bit. But, I sure don't seen anyone else using them.

Is there a reason people don't? I know the right thing to do would be to put a vac. pump on it - but I don't have the dough for that right now. I had one guy at the track say you should never run a bbc without one.

I run a pcv valve like yours, but into a small baffled catch can first(homemade) with a quarter turn drain at the bottom with a small long hose down to the frame. Only needs to be drained about every 500 miles or so. Even then I only get about 1/2 a tea spoon worth. This helps keep the valves cleaner and will help stave off detonation, also helps your fuel work like it should(or wish it would). I like to run a pcv valve to help keep the engine cleaner as well. Ok kids....someone just made this point on another site so I'll share. Maybe everyone else already though of this. However, for future sake, the pcv valve is generally useless on drag cars b/c the engine had no manifold vacuum at wide open throttle. I had to smack myself on the head when I read that - never even crossed my mind.

Street engines have no vacuum at WOT either. If you have no evac system (pcv,vacuum pump,header pan evac) your crankcase pressure will just find its way out of the valve cover breathers usually in the form of a bunch of oil all over your engine.Keep the pcv hooked up unless you get another system.

I have a little diaper on mine now. I've seen some guys use a tube sock lol
