Re: Keep wiping out bearings.
did you line hone it with bolted caps and then switch to studs in the bottom end ?

Nope. Using the same bolts that it was honed with.wikd69 wrote:did you line hone it with bolted caps and then switch to studs in the bottom end ?
Re: Keep wiping out bearings.
If it's not a clearance problem then it has to be an oil supply problem.
too weird...

Re: Keep wiping out bearings.
They dont looked oil starved to me they look like you had something in the oil ( metal etc) from an oil galley or somthing not being cleaned correctly. If you look at the bearings they have grooves cut in them from something they dont look "burnt" also note the oil on the rear main seal.
Re: Keep wiping out bearings.
I agree that it dont look like a lack of oil because thre is no blueing of the bearings and it looks like something went thru the oil and scared all the bearings. I would pull the cam and check those bearings too.
We had a oil filter go bad on us and it spun a bearing and it looked really burnt.
if the clearance was to tight it would look blued also i would think?
They really look like metal went thru the engine. just my .02

Re: Keep wiping out bearings.
When we washed the oil passages out on the crank, we found what we think are cuttings from when the block was line honed. Guess the machine shop didn't wash it out like they said they did.
It should be back together and in the car within the next couple days. We'll drop the pan again to see if the bearings are okay, which I think they will be.

Re: Keep wiping out bearings.
So the only pain was the assembly/disassembly and some wiped bearings ?vegaracer wrote:When we washed the oil passages out on the crank, we found what we think are cuttings from when the block was line honed. Guess the machine shop didn't wash it out like they said they did.

not that what I think matters
Re: Keep wiping out bearings.
Seen it too many times. NEVER trust anybody to clean a block , I spend about 3 hours cleaning before assembly Ill even tell the machine shop to leave out the cam bearings until I clean it then they can put them in.
Re: Keep wiping out bearings.
Dropped the pan again tonight, and all looks good. Guess that was the problem (shavings in the oil passages). Lesson learned there. Thanks for everyones help.
Re: Keep wiping out bearings.
So how did you detect the first failure with the new motor ? Sounds ? Peel the filter and found frags ?vegaracer wrote:Dropped the pan again tonight, and all looks good. Guess that was the problem (shavings in the oil passages). Lesson learned there. Thanks for everyones help.
