Here's a shot of the new radiator and fan setup. It seems to have issue with cooling the motor at freeway speeds. We're now chasing the heat issue on the build.

Ok, change of plans. I decided this 16 inch Spal was not gonna move enough air so I went another direction.
Today I went down to my local pick-n-pull and grabbed a fan from a 94 Lincoln Mark VIII. They just got the car in a week or so back and I was the first one to it.
Paid $40 for the fan assembly and had it out of the car in like 10 minutes. I’m right now in the middle of trimming and mounting it to this new radiator.
Below are the fans from both the Lincoln and the Spal I originally tried out. I wonder which one will move more air ? LOL
Below is my radiator back out of the car with the Lincoln fan/shroud assembly mocked up on it. I will probably just mount it like you see it – I don’t think I’ll need much more flow area on the radiator and this will leave plenty of passthrough for freeway speeds.
This Lincoln fan is a two speed setup - I’m still working on getting the relays all wired correctly – hopefully I’ll get it finished by mid-week.

Hey Harry, I think I found your heating problem.......wikd69 wrote:Here's a shot of the new radiator and fan setup. It seems to have issue with cooling the motor at freeway speeds. We're now chasing the heat issue on the build.
First there is a big piece of wood in front of your car, second no hoses , third no radiator cap, fourth the fan is not wired and lastly, it looks like there is no water in it
Those who think they know it all have no way of finding out they don't.........
Re: Major changes, new parts, more grunt, yee haw ! :)
omg your right bruce lmao dam harry i told you that you needed hoses to keep the water from running out of the radaitor lol

These are the temp switches I recommend :
SUM-890017 for the 185° on/170° off switch, and SUM-890018 for the 200° on/185° off switch.
Trucks are for haulin...

Unfortunately, I ended up with a single speed variant. Evidently Ford/Lincoln varied sourcing the motors and/or the design layouts and some vehicles ended up with two speed fan motors and some with only one speed. No a problem though, as long as it moves enough air. For the time being, I have a toggle in the dash for a 70 amp relay up front. Fan will either be on or off for now.

Re: Major changes, new parts, more grunt, yee haw ! :)
I'm too cool for school now :)
I got the new Mark VIII fan cut down and installed - it was a damn tight fit - and it does a great job. Now I gotta step up the alternator, the one I'm running doesn't crank out enough amps to keep up, especially when I'm using the headlights at the same time.
The fan does a great job though - I've been running the car in high 90's weather and it does great. Here are a couple of shots of the fan installed with the new radiator - like I said, it was a pretty tight fit.

Re: Major changes, new parts, more grunt, yee haw ! :)
Ok, so no good deed goes unpunished.
Hanging this big electric fan worked great to cure my heating issue but tripped me up on power.
So, I just finished stuffing a new Summit 140 amp single wire alternator in the ride. That should take care of my power draw problems. I hope.
Now lets see where the next weak link shows up...

Right, everything leads to something else. That's a lot of juice though. Nice work Harry.wikd69 wrote:Ok, so no good deed goes unpunished.
