Re: Major changes, new parts, more grunt, yee haw ! :)
Ok, progress to report:
One earlier minor item I didn't post before was the latch button I installed to allow me to enable 'reverse' (via the trans-brake). With this new spool, I'll need both hands to horse this manual steering setup around on the street. I put the button inside a protective cup to make sure nobody leans on it at the wrong time (button in cup above and to the right of the safety toggle swtich). Minor change, but big impact down the road. Before this all I had to enable the trans-brake was the momentary push button on the shifter.
I was doing last minute stuff this afternoon and when I fired up the fuel pump I had fuel spouting out of the primary bowl vent tubes on both carbs and I could hear it draining down into the blower. I think when the distributor gear went last fall the backfire was violent enough to take out both power valves. I ended up having to pull the carbs apart to free up the floats and to replace the primary plate power valves.
And, (drum roll please) I finally made noise today with this beast. I static timed it and found later I was within 2 degrees of my final timing (final will be around 32 degrees - I static timed the damn thing to 30 degrees - I was really amazed how close I was)

Progress update:
Did a test crusie around the block - video below - this was the first time the car actually moved since August <WHEW !!!!>. Afterwards I took a loop around town with it. I need to adjust the idle mix, it's a bit lean, seems to get pretty warm just idling, and I may need to jet up a size or two on the primaries, dunno. Timing is pretty clean, the motor is extremely crisp and responsive - I haven't really done much throttle with it, want to make sure it's not gonna shed parts, but all in all, I'm pretty happy with the result. Man, it doesn't take much pedal before this little 427 really starts wailing !!! I just love the sound
Next is to get the A-pillar hoop added to the cage - I'm thinking that'll be this next week.

Yep, the neighbors all like the car. Of course, I'm always *super* careful with it around them <g> as little noise as possible, no black marks on the street, not coming back home too late at nite...John_Heard wrote:Looks like you had the undivided attention of your neighbors lol

Hey Harry.....looks and sounds great but you better watch out, your neighbors with the Cutlass were saying, "man that engine would drop right in"....
Those who think they know it all have no way of finding out they don't.........
