engine bearings question

#1 Post by mike71455 » Wed Sep 29, 2010 10:34 am

Cut open the oil filter after last test and tune and found copper and bearing material. I run an Olds 455 bored .030 with speed pro forged pistons. Have been wondering which bearing seems to stand nitrous better than another. The motor is still in the car but on last pass oil pressure went under 20 psi. had to idle up to keep oil pressure. Any reccomendation on bearing clearance?

Thanks for the information on the clevite h series. saw ad on Dick Miller racings website about the clevite bearings. Hard to find much for the 455 olds. I have been using brad penn 10/30 racing oil. Does heavier weight oil make engine bearings last any longer than a lighter weight engine oil?

Clevite H are a good bearing and narrow to accommodate aftermarket radi.

Clearance is based upon application and usage. A little looser may make it live longer.
With the extra clearance you will need to adjust the oil to accommodate the larger
gap or up the oil weight to achieve the proper pressure.
