Both are proven in given applications. IMO AFR tends to be more for the street/strip crowd where as they Brodix will be found more often on more serious combination.

One observation....look how many race crate engines (sold by professional shops) have Brodix vs AFR...you typically don't see AFR being used on those style builds. May be a performance reason, maybe not.

Myself, I like Brodix.

My builder wanted me to buy AFR, but I did not have the money. That said, I think in a good porters hands any quality casting can be made to be very close to any other casting. Provided there is room to move the metal around. But thats just my two cents. My heads are Canfield's. Their port and chambers were designed by HVH. HVH also did a lot of R&D work on the brodix BB series heads.

Not necessarily. You can have heads that are too big. Remember this " big ports = slow port velocity = more rpm to move the air-fuel charge ". The efficientcy of a head doesn't mean that more cc's is better. Your better off with heads that smaller than too big in most cases.
My heads are big "385 cc's" on my 572 and flow 440+ cfm's. The head is big for my motor but we put nitrous in it so it needs to be big for that reason. If I were not running nitrous the head would more like a 345 cc head that flowed 380 cfm's. Matching head flow to a particular motor combo is key to making good power.
So bigger isn't always better........

I noticed that Brodix heads start around 310cc. Is that like a standard bore?

Brodix also has a nice head called the Race-Rite for BBC starting at 270cc ovals. I know a couple people who have used them on Street & strip cars with good success.

So what cc would be good for a roller motor. 12:1 pistons. Roller Cam. No Nitrous.

Thats a small motor and a low rpm...factory oval ports could make 700 on that motor, but if you have to have aluminum... anyones small heads should work fine.

If it was my setup i would look at it in the long term goal status! If you want to run 8's with a big block in the future...then start the planning on it and just run what you have for now.

Because the heads you willl want for a 427 and a 540 will be totally different.

Jim

P.S. The small is better than large statement is very true in heads, i have been running 210cc heads on my SBC spinning it to 7500, and these heads are way to small for my current 383. Now on my new motor that is 415" i went with a bigger head that is still on the small side for the cubic inch.

from the basic info provided the RaceRite oval would be a great choice.

Why you say that small and low? What you make oval can make 700 on that motor? Right now I have all steel heads.
