383 roller vs LS 5.3 genIII roller

#1 Post by Outlaw2 » Wed Mar 07, 2012 9:06 am

 ok my race friends here is what i'm running into. I read all these article on here and racing magazines, now i want to know what would make a better engine for street/strip? Would a 383 with a roller cam be as good as a genIII 5.3 roller engine? The LS engine makes good power with just a cam swap and ported heads. Could i expect the same results out of an old style block? This is a very low budget build but all opinions are helpful! Thanks

LS style engines have technology in the heads and such that is light years ahead of the older stuff. While I would (probably) not swap from the 383, since I already had the parts, I would seriously consider an LS type motor in a new build. It is the stuff such as the oil pan and the coil pack stand alone sytems that currently make them initially more expensive to start with than the older stuff...
