N/A Small Block Chevy in 2600lb Car...

Hey guys,

Remember our buddy Jeff 4100 from Brazil, well he had a question and I thought I'd throw it out to you guys as well.

Here is what he would like to know, he wants to run in a class that is for N/A cars only, the engine he wants is a small block chevy and it can only have a maximum cubic inches size of 420 and a deck height of 9.025. This motor would be put into a 2600lb chassis.

I was thinking a 383 would be good for that, but aren't 383 real torquey and would he need a lot of torque in a chassis that light, so with that in mind, would it be better for him going with a 406?

What would you guys build?

Oh you could go crazy on that. Saw somebody made 1100 hp on a SB2 small block the other day (not 100% on that number) but it was very impressive. It's more a question on how much money does he want to spend?

I saw someone makes a stroker kit that with a 4.155" bore, 6.0" rod and a stroke of 3.875", that would give you 420.33 cubic inches.

He's all Gung Ho about doing this.

I just got a message from him and he said he misses coming onto the site and he's going to have to update everyone on their new build which is their version of a Chevette.

I would worry more about what can be done with the induction side of it than pushing the cubic inches to the max really. Cylinder heads, intake, compression, etc will make a big difference.

Yes - Butch Kemps, that was it and 1200 is pretty bad small block in anyone's book.

I've been busy actually under a new Project...its a Chevy Chevette...I'll try to post something later...

Then, there is a class here which allows to use V8 engine, aspirated on a lighter chassis...and there isn't any Chevy V8...just 6 cylinders for Chevy...there is just one Ford Maverick V8...I guess its a 351 CID...but this car has a worst ET than the Inliners...

I've a 88 Chevy Opala body, a complete Moser rear end (arrived last week) and all that I need to build my own chassis...but I don't anything about V8 engines...but I know that the weight allowed is enough to make a great job with a SBC engine...

But now, I need to know what engine configuration I could go...and also, I have no idea how much I would spend on it...

Our rulebook just says about the Deckheight of 9,025" and 420 cubic inches...and about transmission, its totally free...even automatic or manual...I'm sure you have great option for these options for transmission, but I don't know really what would be best option...
