Holley Notched Float - What is this crap?

#1 Post by John_Heard » Thu Sep 27, 2012 7:03 am

Anyone got any idea what this stuff is on the notches on this float? Seems to be like a clearish varnish of some sort.. I assume Pro Systems used this to seal the float. Doesn't someone make these floats by now without using that crap that can come loose?

You can buy them already notched, wonder why they did that? Jegs/holley #510-116-10, not to mention moroso, jegs house brand, quick fuel and I am sure some others. I know I have had mine apart before and they are made with the notches, not hand cut and coated. I would be calling patrick.
I am not really sure what the question is, but I am pretty sure the answer is Big Block.

Put a call into Pro Systems first thing this morning, and no reply yet. Not real satisfied with their response times, it's been 3+ hours. I think I'll just buy the replacement float from Summit or whoever. Also have to get replacement accelerator check valve rubber thingys that PS forgot to put in the rebuild kit I bought from them.

There were flakes from that crap in the fuel bowl, but should be good now I've had it soaking in carb cleaner for a long time and blowing out all the passages, etc. There was a lot of crap in it. Might run better now!

Yes it was a used one, and it's quite possible it's not a float they supplied with the carb.

Typically notched floats are for use with speed bowls - allows you to swap jets without pulling the bowls off. Maybe this was someone's homebuilt variant of that.

No, these are for the rear bowl when you use jet extensions. Speedbowls might have something similar? Dunno..

Do they typically use the store bought notched floats now? I just ordered a new one and the parts PS forgot to send from Summit, hopefully the parts will be here by this weekend so I can finish the carb up.

Still no return call from Pro Systems.

Shit, I've called them several times and have never got him this year. First time got Brad, and that took two days to get him to return my call playing phone tag. Today I talked to some lady that said they don't take calls, just leave your number and they will return the call when they have time. Glad I wasn't needing help on race day.

No big deal, I bought what I needed from Summit.

I'v had 2 PS carb's and have had great service. The carb I have now is a Gary Willams 1200 cfm. His customer service is horrible but the carb works good. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

I'm just a bit perturbed that when I call PS and leave a number for call back, they don't call back...
