Aluminum Rod?

Aluminum Rod?
I have a 540 BBC with Twin 91's turbo's making 2500hp at 35lbs of boost @ 8500 RPM's.
My question is what can I expect for rod life with aluminum rods? how many passes!
It is a small tire stock suspension drag radial car weighing in at 3600lbs.
Thanks

What brand of rod? I would think your best answer is to ask the rod manufacturer. I doubt they'll give you a guarantee but, they can give you an idea.68Z wrote:I have a 540 BBC with Twin 91's turbo's making 2500hp at 35lbs of boost @ 8500 RPM's.

Very good rods no doubt. Sounds like quite the combination you have. Have you made any passes? Photos of cars are always appreciated...... especially 2500 HP beasts!!!!68Z wrote:They are GRP rods!

Re: Aluminum Rod?
The higher the horsepower, the fewer cycles they will want you to run the rods. Like Mike said ask GRP, but I'm betting they will tell you 80 passes or less.

Re: Aluminum Rod?
We run GRP aluminum rod in your TopSportsman N/A 704 ci motor. We make 200 full passes with them and out they come. We have 120 passes on them now and should be able to go through next season with them.
Under the stress your rods are under I wouldn't push them pass 75-100 full passes.
But like John and Mike, I would call GRP and ask.

Thank you all for your comments!
When It is time to change the rods Looks like at about 75-100 passes! if the leak down and compression test are all good can I re-use the rings. Or should I just de glaze the bores and install new rings anyway?

If you've got it down probably should freshen the bore and rings while you're at it. They won't hold tension forever.
