oil rings

#1 Post by PANDER » Mon Sep 08, 2014 5:37 pm

I have a 468 Chevy big block, rebuilt it about 7 years ago but haven't really run it much at all, so I toke my heads off and looked at the cylinders and everything and noticed a little oil in the cylinders, each time I would rotate the engine it would get a little oil back in the cylinder after a couple revolutions, my question is could this be normal or not? I don't have very much run time on this engine, all new piston and oil rings gaped and installed correctly all new bearings the cylinders where honed before installation. any thoughts or insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

If its not fouling plugs or smoking badly, I wouldn't worry about it. Low tension rings tend to use more oil because they dont's scrape the oil off as much.

thanks for the reply Ray, that makes since, I never saw any smoke when the engine was running, a couple of plugs would have a little bit of oil up towards the top, but I guess that would be due to the rings not seating completely yet I hope anyways.
