Oil restrictors for Small Block Chevy

#1 Post by 71 Nova » Mon Oct 13, 2014 10:43 pm

My son and I are putting together a 377 Small Block Chevy for drag racing and limited street use (it's 10 miles to the drag strip from my son's house). It's a relatively high rpm motor (cam peaks at 7800 rpm). Solid roller Comp cam, SS roller rockers, 400 block, AFR alum. heads, COLA 4340 crank, Lunati rods, Manley pistons @ 13:1 compression. We are thinking of using oil restrictors in the oil galleys (the block came with them), but I have heard conflicting info on whether or not to use them, drill them out, leave o-rings off, etc... What experiences or recommendations do you guys have with them?

I don't use restrictors in anything. I feel its better to oil the valvetrain and control drainback and pan windage.

I have used restrictors in everything!!!! And have had not one problem with the use of them. I even have them in my Dart block now. The only thing I do different is I drill them out bigger. Most if not all restrictors have a .060 hole in them, I drill them out to .100 for more oil flow but not flooding the top...... :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

I had to drill mine out to .125" to keep from burning up the pushrods.
