what do I have here?

#1 Post by IAWarden » Thu Mar 12, 2015 2:33 pm

I have a 383 stroker bore is actually 4.060, 6 inch eagle rods, stock 350 heads, scat steel crank, oil pan, double roller timing chain(or gear drive) w/cover, rod and main bearings, and valve covers.

What i am looking to know is. What do I have the capability of doing with this motor? I'm not looking to spend multiple $1000s, but for what I got this all for I couldn't pass the deal up.

I don't have a vehicle to put the motor in, but I do have a 700r transmission to go with it(and a builder to make it handle more if needed). Most likely it will go in a small pickup or 3rd gen camaro/firebird.

Any advice would be amazing. Thanks in advance.

First, a .060 setup should be a 388. But the biggest influence you will have on the power output of the engine will be how good of a cylinder head you can use. And then from there, determining the best cam based on the usage of the engine. An engine like that would benefit from about a 190-200cc intake runner head. A "good" stock head is a little small, probably 165-170 at best.
