Intake manifold holes won't line up

#1 Post by DriveWFO » Wed Apr 04, 2007 8:19 pm

I can't get the damn holes in my Victor Jr. to line up with my heads. I had a hell of a time a few weeks ago getting this thing installed and I ended up cross-threading some of the holes. It's like I can line up all the holes on one side or the other, but not both. They are off just enough I can't start the bolts in straight.

Have you your heads been milled? Maybe they have been angle milled.

Nope, brand new heads, brand new intake. Didn't have any issues with other top-end builds on this block. I'm gonna have my machine shop elongate the manifold holes a hair. That should do it.

I had similar issues with my intake swap last summer. I went from a Super Victor to a Dart high single plane and when I went to the Dart I had to get the holes elongated and then I was fine.

Canfield 215cc. The heads have not been milled or angle milled. My Vortec top-end lined up perfectly on this same block last season. Go figure.

I dropped the intake off at the machine shop this morning. I asked him about elongating the bolt holes and he put a brick in a tube sock and smacked some sense into me

He said that generally, zero decking the block would not cause this to happen. However, he's had some intakes come in that were just a hair off from the casting process. I'm already using thin gaskets and a thicker gasket would make it worse. He's gonna do it the right way and mill the intake and all should be good.

Had the same problem with an 18* 434. The Trick Flow heads and GM intake werent getting along at all. We just elongated the holes, and all was well.

8-) If your machinest is going to skim your manifold? you should also be doing a port match check as well. For some reason its not lineing up, and if you just skim the manifold how do u know if the ports are a match?
I have done this on evry manifold I have ever fitted and you would be suprised how far out they are!!
I can give you a run down on how its done if you need? :D
